Family

When I think of my childhood and the "big" family, I remember Christmas Eves; Thanksgiving at Grandma and Grandpa's in New Hope, eating at the long table in the basement; the apple tree in the back yard; putting quarters on the train track; the red shed; Grandma's flowers; wanting to eat Jeannie's lifesavers off the LIFESAVER man and woman hanging from the shelf in her room and playing with my cousins. Do you remember Grandma listening to the T.V. on the radio? The room behind the bar downstairs where she kept her canned foods? Her rolling dishwasher? Playing cribbage? Grandpa walking us to the Dairy Queen? The Butterscotch candies in his pocket... no fail! The birthday parties and special events were so much fun. So here's to Grandma and Grandpa for starting it.... and to the "aunties" for keeping it together.

I'm sure we all have our own memories....I have a few more myself. Please share yours here!

I remember playing in the storage room off the bathroom downstairs at the house in New Hope. The mink stoles were in there and Jeanne and I played with them. I also remember throwing up in the bedroom off the family room once - grandma must have loved that!!! Yuk! I also remember staying overnight with Jeanne playing on the swings and singing the Girl Scout song over and over. Loved your comments, Patty. You are right, thanks to grandma and grandpa for starting the tradition of getting together for special events and birthdays. It is a lot of fun and important to stay connected!!

I don't remember a whole lot about grandma and grandpa's house in New Hope. I have flashes of memories- the train definitely, the apple trees and for some reason I remember a worm that was permanently fossilized in their cement patio!
I remember Christmas Eves at the Egans mostly- remember when we all would dress up and do the Nativity? I remember Uncle Jim playing Santa and all of the sisters and Ed trying to get a photo but always getting silly.
And of course Grandpa's Orange Jeep!

A lot of your memories would be mine, also - because we moved into that house when I was four or five.
