Our 5th Book:

Our 5th group will be hosted by Teresa on Sunday, April 27th. Place and time to be determined.

A few reviews....

Publishers Weekly
With a fantastic storytelling knack... Walls doesn't pull her punches.

The New York Times - Francine Prose
The Glass Castle falls short of being art, but it's a very good memoir. At one point, describing her early literary tastes, Walls mentions that ''my favorite books all involved people dealing with hardships.'' And she has succeeded in doing what most writers set out to do -- to write the kind of book they themselves most want to read.

Dani Shapiro, author of Family History
Jeannette Walls has carved a story with precision and grace out of one of the most chaotic, heartbreaking childhoods ever to be set down on the page. This deeply affecting memoir is a triumph in every possible way, and it does what all good books should: it affirms our faith in the human spirit.

Patty, thanks for your time and research in posting info about 'The Glass Castle' - I hope to begin it soon.

The reviews are what helped me choose this book - thanks.

I'm checking into a couple of options for a meeting place. Will update you soon.

I am looking forward to getting started--picking up the book today.

So happy you were able to make it, Sharon.

Oh, good grief - both comments I made the other day sound so stupid - Sharon, I'm happy you could make it "again".

I am enjoying the book, Teresa. We are getting a variety! I would like to read "A Thousand Splendid Suns" if you bring it next time.

I enjoy getting on and reading new comments. Keep on posting!

I've started the book, is anyone else thinking about a three yr old cooking hotdogs?

If you can make it on Sunday, Sharon, I would be happy to give you the book, or whenever we next connect. It's good, and since reading 'Kite Runner", you'll feel absorbed in Afghanistan culture - just a different slant from the first.

I'm a few pages away from finishing the book, has anyone finished it?

I'm emailing the 'Glass Castle' dicussion questions for our Family Read on Sunday, April 27 - time: 5:00, location: TBD.
I'll print a copy for Pat. I found the info on ReadingGroupGuides.com. Page numbers are also conveniently listed for reference.

More information will follow on where we're meeting.
