The Island by Victoria Hislop is a story about the loves, lives and losses of four generations of Greeks; from the fishing village Plaka to London; and the devastating effect of the island off the coast of Plaka: Spinalonga.
Hi - I noticed the book list on the bottom of the main page, and it was nice to stop and think for a minute about the books we've read and discussed.
I was talking with a friend last week, and it was fun to discover she had read 'The Glass Castle'. It inspired me to do more research on Jeannette Walls and her life story. Here's a link to an ABC website (she apparently was featured on Primtime in 2005) - it gives even more insight into her book and her life. inshttp://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/Entertainment/Story?id=552776ight
I hope the link works - it doesn't look like it's highlighted for linking - try a cut/paste if you're interested in reading it?
I am really enjoying the book- I came across an entry today in a French blog and it has stunning photos of Crete- the area where the story takes place. I'd love to visit some day! Here is a link if anyone is interested:
I did link to the pictures - oh my gosh - it's breathtaking there! Fun to think about all that when reading the book - for everyone who has seen "Mama Mia" - wasn't all that sparkling blue just too wonderful?
I think it's come full circle and I'm the next one to pick a book! I do have one in mind. Jeanne, do you know where and when we'll be meeting on the 19th? I'm looking forward to it.
